The secret to diets, a journey to health

“If we could give every individual the right amount of nourishment and exercise, not too little and not too much, we would have found the safest way to health.”

That is the quote of the well-known doctor Hippocrates (460-377 a.C) that comes the most when we talk about nutrition.  If you think about it, it is incredible that already 2000 years ago the secret to be healthy was no longer a secret. A healthy nutrition doesn't have any effect if you don't exercise, and vice versa. That's the reason why if you want to be healthy, it is recommended to speak both to a professional in the nutrion field (nutritionist, dietician) and to a personal trainer. But what does health really mean? And what is the right amount of nourishment?

Let's talk about it.

The WHO (World Health Organization) defined health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. That is a condition that everyone can achieve, you just have to believe that you can do it. First of all, in order to do that, you should not live your life in a stressful way, you should take care of yourself. A hour is made of 60 minutes and a day of 1440 minutes: of all of those minutes, you should use at least two minutes to breath deeply and practice meditation. Regardingthe right amount of nourishment, it is important to go on a diet that is healthy (choosing food consciously) and balanced (with a balanced relationship between carbohydrates, lipids and proteins).

The thought of going on a diet always scares people, but going on a diet should not be intended as a deprivation or sacrifice. The word “diet” derives from the greek word “dìaita”, that means “way of life”. You can find a new balance with yourself through , in terms of quantity (specific ones for each person according to one's energy consumption) and quality. It is not necessary to give up anything (unless there's evidence of a specific disease), it is better to replace a damaging food with a similar but healthier version.

For example: if you can't resist the famous nutella, you can replace it with a hazelnut cream that has a higher percentage of hazelnuts instead of sugar and cocoa butter instead of palm oil.

Therefore, a healthy and balanced nutrition and appropriate exercise are the ingredients that give our body a lot of benefits. They are useful to mantain a correct bodyweight and to prevent many diseases (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia ecc) and above all, they are important for our physical and mental well-being.

That is the key to diet: no deprivation and paying more attention to food tags.
